Marriage Lyfe

Hey Blogger, It seems like I haven't been on here in a while to complain, or talk, or discuss what is going on in my life. If you have read my last post, you would have noticed my thoughts and feeling about friendship, or the lack there of in my life. I also, mentioned my wife, and i thought it would be a good idea to talk a little bit more about her. Lets start at the beginning. In September of 2010, i met my wife, then girlfriend, Abby. We met through mutual friends and went on a double date to Chili's. We chatted a couple times through texting. Right before then, i was seeing another girl who went to my high school, and also ended up at my college, but after hanging out a couple of times, i just didn't feel like i clicked well with her. I ended the "relationship,' with her in a really shitty way, by telling her it wouldn't work out while playing a N64 in my dorm room. It was really shitty, and being more mature now, i wish i could have done it differentl...

Friend/Ship

*Please start with the music below before reading the post* I want to preface this post with a couple of things before people get upset. I am indeed married, and I love my wife very much While they do overlap, and i do consider my wife my best friend, this post has nothing to do with that I am an only child Phew, now that i got that out of the way, I wanted to talk about my experience with friendship, or lack there of in my life. While in middle school and high school, this is not something that I struggled with. I had a couple of close friends who i spent all my time with. Once i got to college, the concept of friendship was something that was really hard to grasp. When talking to others, friends in grad school, or just the students i work with, they all seem to have really close relationships with the people the went to high school with, and granted, most of them just graduated high school. I haven't talked to anyone from my high school, except from that one random DM...

RA Training

So...RA training. That wonderful time of the year that marks the end of summer for #SAPROs in housing and marks the beginning of a very long couple of weeks. RA training will either be something you are excited for, or could be the most stressful time of the year. While I love RA training, my feelings toward RA training have began to change. First, i feel like i wreck my body for two weeks during RA training. With the copious amount of caffeine, large amount of either dining hall food or fast food provided and all the snacks keep you going in the moment, but then the aftermath can be somewhat hurtful. During training i drink a redbull a day, multiple cups of coffee and soda galore (with a side of water). To help with this this year my wife and I going on a no soda, fast food, and lessen our junk food intake to hope that it will all even out. Second, the enthusiasm i share about RA training is not necessarily shared in my department. I LOVE RA training. I love the ice breakers, th...

The Begining

Hello There, While in Grad School, i really enjoyed some of the journaling aspects we were asked to do. The journals were centered around our experiences during our work and personal life. I think reflection is one of the most important thing to do in student affairs in order to create connections with others (both in the field and outside of it) and to receive advice about how to move forward in practices, procedures. To go one step further, I plan to incorporate music into my blog posts and  I will try to update this blog twice a month. I guess I should start from the beginning to explain who I am. My name is DJ Escobar, i grew up in the East Bay of California, aka the SF bay area, but really closer to Oakland. High school sucked, but what else is new, so i will choose to skip over that and start with my undergraduate education. I think that this is important to note because i feel like my experience in high school had no real impact of who I am today/ I completed my underg...
